LATEST NEWS

26 June 2011

We spent a day testing the new Race Tech Suspension on Stef's bike at Lakeside yesterday with absolutely pleasing results

Corner speed is now awesome and as good as or better than many of the high profile 600 and 1000 race bikes and expensive street bikes that were on track on the day.

The combination of suspension and Pirelli Tyres enabled the Hyosung to go through the last sweeper on to the main straigh with amazing speed and grip. So much so that we now have a major issue with the standard exhaust scraping along its full length at full lean angle.

Now to get the second bike set up for Warwick in 2 weeks time...

We've been either busy or slack and have not updated the site for a while

We are off testing the new Race-Tech suspension at Lakeside tomorrow and next outing is at Warwick in 2 weeks time for Round 3 of the Southern Down Series.

We'll be joined by yet another Hyosung recently purchased by Craig Bashforth so if you are heading up there come and say hello - just look for the garage full of Ho's.

Here's our race report from Round 2:

RACE REPORT – SOUTHERN DOWNS ROUND 2. MAY 7-8 2011

Redman Racing Hyosungs – 4 race wins in Qld debut

Round 2 of the Southern Downs series at Morgan Park Raceway was the first race meeting where both team riders, Stephanie and Phillip Redman, were to compete together on their Hyosung GT650 race bikes.

Due to last minute work commitments, Stef was unable to attend on the Saturday, missing qualifying and the first 2 of 5 races. Non qualifying meant that she had to start rear of field in the 3 races contested on the Sunday.

SATURDAY:

Phil took Stefs bike out for the first qualifying session to scrub in the new Pirelli Super Corsa tyres so she was not straight in to racing on green tyres on Sunday. He then took his own GT650 out for the second Qualifier and gained 5th position on the grid in a field of 23 bikes.

Race one saw the Hyosung launch off the line to take 2nd position going into turn 1. A close battle ensued with race leader Ashley Skyring on a 400 for the next lap and a half. Phil then gained the lead and held on for a win with a margin of 0.133 seconds to 2nd place Skyring with 3rd placed Sean Purcell, also on a 400, 3.5 seconds further back. Phil clocked the fastest race lap with a 1:31.070.

Race 2 was a repeat of race 1, with Phil and Skyring swapping leads on a couple of occasions. Phil crossed the line with another win to 2nd placed Skyring (0.153 seconds behind) and Purcell just 1.2 seconds back in 3rd place.

SUNDAY:

The day saw Skyring suffering clutch issues while Purcell had slotted on a new set of rubber to try and improve his position in Sundays races. With Stef starting at the back of the field we knew both riders would be in for some tough racing throughout the day.

Race 3 and Phil had the lead from Purcell by turn 4 and stayed in P1 for the race to the finish. Stefs first ever outing on her new Hyosung saw her mid-field by turn 1 and in 7th by the end of the first lap. It was a steep learning curve for Stef as she juggled between picking off the competition and learning the characteristics of the bike on its standard and very soft suspension.

The Chequered flag greeted Phil for his 3rd win, .418 seconds ahead of Purcell and 12 seconds ahead of 3rd placed Sam Phillips. Stef rode an amazing race from the rear to come home in 5th and a very respectable lap time of 1:33.117.

Race 4 and Stef had an absolute blinder of a start going from last to 7th by turn one. Phil settled into second place behind Purcell for most of the race while Stef fought her way forward to 4th place in lap 3. Across the line it was Phil 1st to Purcell, Phillips and Stef 4th. Phils best lap time was 1:30.123 while Stef shaved second off her pace to do a 1:31.588.

The last race of the weekend had us a little concerned as we knew both bikes were suffering from ailing brakes toward the end of each race and both our riders wanted to obtain a good result to conclude the weekend.

Good brakes or bad, the pace was hot throughout with Stef doing her now routine carving through the field and Phil and swapping the lead with Purcell. As the race unfolded the brakes became an issue so Stef settled into 5th behind Skyring and Phil remained in 2nd behind Purcell.

Despite the problems this leg was the fastest race of the day with the chequered Flagg greeting Purcell in 1st with a 1:29.284 Lap, followed 0.183 seconds behind with a 1:29.352 Lap. Phillips was 3rd, 7.77 seconds behind the leader, Skyring 10.447 seconds back and Stef in fifth 0.538 seconds behind 4 place.

The weekend was a dream run for the Team with Phil taking 1st outright with 122 points to Purcell with 109 and Phillips on 96. Three rear of field starts and missing 2 races certainly cost Stef over the weekend but she still earned a very respectable 9th place overall with 50 points. Despite not contesting the 1st Round, a consistant run by the Redman Racing Hyosung riders could still result in being at the “Pointy end” by the seasons end.

Both Hyosung GT650’s performed faultlessly and considering the only modification from a showroom bike was the fitting of a sports muffler, we are more than pleased with our decision to purchase and race them this year.

Racing next weekend:

The team head out to Morgan Park at Warwick this coming weekend for round 2 of the Queensland Southern Downs Series.

Steph and Phil's Hyosung GT650R's will hit the track together for the first time this year and with the forecast fine weather we're expecting a great weekend of racing

Hyosung Engine Crash Covers:

The team have developed and now have available, Carbon Fibre Crash Covers for the GT650 motors.

Each cover comprises an inner and outer layer of Carbon Fibre sandwiching layers of Aramid fibre which is a highly abrasion resistant material similiar to Kevlar. Extra inner layers are used in the centre of the covers to provide greater depth where it's needed.  The covers will fit both the current Black and the older Silver motors.

Nostalgic moment:

We were browsing through some old photos and came across this one showing Steph and Phil with their first very own Road Race bikes (Moriwaki 80 and Honda RS125GP) from a few years ago. Not sure how long the new paintwork lasted though!

There has been a lot going on behind the scenes so little time to update the site for a while.

Race Report on Phils efforts at the Formula Extreme round 1 at Eastern Creek is now up

Suspension upgrades for the Hyosung GT650's are underway - See info under "Project Hyosung"

We did trek out to Morgan Park 2 weeks ago to compete in the 1st round of the Southern Downs series, only to suffer heavy rain throughout the Saturday and forecast again for Sunday. As we knew some more development was required on the bike it was decided to abandon the meeting rather than risk damage to bike or rider in the adverse conditions.

Next race meeting for both Hyosungs is Southern Downs Round 2 at Warwick - May 7-8

Stef is now working at Team Moto Yamaha at Nerang, so drop in and say hi next time your looking for gear or accessories!

1 February 2011

Project Hyosung has been moving forward to plan, but is taking a brief rest after Phil had a bad accident while BMX riding 3 days ago.

After headbutting a jump he was rushed to hospital with some bad cuts and grazes and suspected neck injury. There was some anxious waiting for 2 days for MRI results for all of us while Phil remained immobilised, waiting to hear the extend of damage.

His spine was, to all our relief, not badly injured and he has been discharged today with a week or so of total rest to help recover from his injuries

We will be back onto the Hyosung Project soon and Phil is still looking forward to a track day on 13th Feb if he is medically fit

December 2010

As Stef was lucky enough to start her Christmas holidays early, she headed down to Winton in Victoria to do a bit of spectating at the FX Summer Championship event for Road and MX Racing.

At the last minute she was offered a Moriwaki MD250 for the event and borrowed boots, leathers, helmet, gloves etc from numerous competitors to get on the track.

Each race was a new experience as the team tried to dial in the suspension on the unfamiliar ride and lap times improved throughout the day with a solid 2nd place in Class resulting in the 1 event Championship

Stef joined forces with fellow Queenslanders Stephen Relph and Craig (Fuji) Alick to compete in the Superstock 600 Class at the Phillip Island 6 hour event. The weekend started badly with the main bike dropping a bottom end in the first practice session resulting in almost 3 sessions being missed in preparation for the main race

It all came together for the actual race, starting 35th on the grid, the team worked their way up the field to finish 19th outright and a rewarding 3rd place in the Superstock 600 Class.

The team decided not to compete at the final Southern Downs round so we all spent the weekend out at Morgan Park, donning officials vest and helping out. It is noce to be able to give back a little to the sport and assist those who work so hard to make our race meetings happen.

Press Release 16 October 2010

REDMAN RACING-“EASTERN CREEK READY”

Brother and sister racers, Stephanie and Phillip Redman are keenly waiting on the upcoming 5th and final 2010 FX round at Eastern Creek

Stef and Phil will both be competing in the 125GP Class with Stef racing in the 125GP Sports class on her Honda RS125 and Phil contesting the 125GP Pro class on his Yamaha TZ125. Both will be racing under the Puma RV’s Race Team banner. Puma RV’s have supported both riders throughout the 2010 Formula Xtreme series

Stef has already taken out the Formula Xtreme Championship, Puma RV’s 125GP Sports Series for the year with an unbeatable points lead but needs a good result to retain her lead in the Nationals Series.

“We had a great result at Wakefield but the last round at the Creek was a disaster with motor issues. We have done a lot of work on the bike to give us the reliability I am used to and keep the points coming. Hopefully it will all come together” said Stef “Winning both Series was our goal at the beginning of the year and it will be nice to achieve this for my sponsors”

Phil has only contested round 1 in the 125GP Class and has had a break for most of the season due to work commitments. After a 6 month break he is looking forward to competing once again in the final round in the 125GP Pro Class.

Phil was at Round 4 at Wakefield and following a high-side on his 125GP on Friday was invited to ride one of the Wilkinson Brothers Hyosung 650’s in the Pro-Twins Nakedbike Class. Winning five out of 6 class races Phil said “This is the best fun and racing I have had for a long time. It was a great bike and dicing with some of the bigger bikes in other classes created some awesome racing over the weekend.

Ric and Dave Wilkinson have invited Phil to contest the Pro-Twins class on one of their bikes at the final round and Phil is really looking forward to beating the “Boss”, Ric once again.

Team Manager and father, Alan Redman said the FX Series had been a great experience “This is the first National Series we have undertaken and it has exceeded our expectations in many aspect. We have gained some incredible sponsorship due to the TV coverage and high profile of the Series overall and we already have ongoing commitments for assistance for 2011”.

Alan further explained “We run on a shoestring budget, but now realise that competing in a series that gives us (and our sponsors) regular media exposure goes a long way toward gaining further backing. The exposure we got on Speedweek’s telecast for round 4 was incredible and we already have further interest of assistance for the coming season following that show”.

Redman Racing has just published their new website to further promote their Sponsors, the Team and Road Racing andcan be viewed at www.redmanracing.com.au

And Ric "The Boss's" response

From: Ric Wilkinson on 18/10 at 02:50 PM
Lets see him beat the "Boss" when his bikes only firing on one!!!

Seriously I hope Phil has a great weekend, he'll beat me due to the fact he has more talent and youth on his side. I guess old, ugly and talentless is never a winning formula.

Hopefully Ryan Magnussen can give Phil some stiff competion on one of the other Hyosungs, I really hope both young guys a have a great time.

Phil will now be riding in both the 125GP Pro Class and Nakebike Pro-Twins at the FX Finals at Eastern Creek

See some great on-board camera action with Stef from Wakefield FX Round 4 of the Puma RV's sponsored 125GP and 250GP Mono classes which can be viewed at the Speedweek website :(Click on the picture below)
